Stephen Brent Lowery, born on October 12, 1960, is a successful American professional golfer. He hails from Birmingham, Alabama and has secured victories on the PGA Tour in 1994, 2000 and 2008. Notably, all three of his triumphs on the PGA Tour have come in playoffs. Lowery has also achieved a position in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings. His most noteworthy season on the PGA Tour was in 1994, where he finished 12th on the money list. Unfortunately, he missed most of 2007 due to a wrist injury, resulting in the PGA Tour granting him a partial exemption for the 2008 season.

During his first eight starts in 2008, he needed to win more than $250,000 in order to regain his full exemption on the PGA Tour. However, Lowery’s victory in the 2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am secured him a full two-year exemption. Lowery’s successful golf career dates back to the late 70s when he won the Birmingham Golf Association Junior and State Junior titles. His collegiate years were spent at the University of Alabama, where he played for coach Conrad Rehling from 1979 to 1983 as part of the Alabama Crimson Tide golf team.

Lowery’s golf career is punctuated with many memorable moments, including a peculiar incident at The Players Championship in 1998 where a seagull stole his successful approach shot to the infamous island green on the 17th hole. Notably, under PGA rules, he was allowed to replace his ball with no penalty. Another unforgettable moment occurred at The International in 2002 when he made a rare albatross (or double eagle) on the 71st hole, almost clinching victory, yet ultimately losing by a narrow margin.
